Hi, I'm Emi Higgins.
I built tro-net after seeing how difficult convincing email scams had become for people I love.
It started with my grandparents
My grandparents would often call and ask me to check an email they weren't sure about. They wanted to know whether it was real, fraudulent, or safe to act on.
Those calls showed me just how advanced and convincing phishing emails can be. Some messages even pretended to come from good friends they had known for years. The fakes looked real enough that they had no obvious way to tell the difference.
A simple way to get a second opinion
I first created tro-net as a small service for them: a quick way to forward a suspicious email and get a clear answer about whether it looked safe. Just as importantly, the reply explained the reasons behind the answer so they could start recognizing the patterns themselves.
Once I saw how useful that was, I decided to turn it into a platform that other people could use to check their own email and protect themselves from phishing and email scams.
A little about me
My background is in computer science, and I've worked in professional software engineering for more than three years. I hope tro-net helps people feel more confident about the messages in their inbox—and helps them learn how to spot and stop scams for themselves.
